Our Learning Philosophy
Philosophy Statement
At The Learning Tree, we believe that through a Project-based approach, children can develop deeper knowledge through active exploration of the real world challenges and problems. Based on our approach, we included programmes such as ‘Little Scientists’, ‘Ready, Steady, GO!’ and more. Children are allowed to choose these programme based on their interest. We believe that by working in a team and allowing children to learn from real experiences, knowledge will be developed.

What is Project-Based approach?
Project-based learning is a student-centered pedagogy that involves a dynamic classroom approach in which it is believed that students acquire a deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems. Our children are nurtured in an environment that does not place limits on their creativity or enforce time restrictions.
At The Learning Tree, our goal is for children to become engaged in their own learning while educators serve as guides rather than instructors. There is no right or wrong answer in project development, which encourages children to take risks and embrace learning through creative thought. (McGolerick, 2013)
How is project based approach seen?
At The Learning Tree, we allow children to come up with topics they are interested in. At the same time incorporating hands on experiences for children to learn and develop to their fullest potential.
Some examples can be seen below.
Life Cycle of a Butterfly
The children showed interest in learning more about the life cycle of a butterfly upon discussion of what topic they should learn next. Using the K-W-L chart, the children mentioned what they know about butterfly and what they would like to more about the life cycle of a butterfly. Through doing research at home with their parents and sharing their answers in class, our children are also fortunate enough to experience the life cycle of a butterfly as our teacher was able to catch some caterpillars. The children then took the responsibility to find out what a caterpillar eats and need in order to turn into a butterfly. They took good care of the caterpillars which eventually turned into a butterfly which the children witnessed flying away from the container it was once in.
