The Learning Tree Approach

The Learning Tree approach is a pedagogical approach that is adapted from both Reggio Emilia and Montessori approach. It is a student centred pedagogy where children's interests are the top priority. This approach allows children to experience authentic learning and experimental play, where children are constructors of knowledge. Educators are expected to facilitate children by using questioning and scaffolding techniques to find out more about children’s interest. By using the KWL chart, teachers would find out what are the children’s current knowledge on the chosen topic and what they would like to learn more about. Educators are expected to collaborate with caregivers to allow learning to occur both in school and at home.

What is Reggio Emilia?

This approach is a student-centered and constructivist self-guided curriculum that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments (Stoudt, 2020). Our curriculum topics are mainly derived from talking with children and their families, as well as from things that are known to be interesting to children. For instance, we brought in the topic of Hand Washing when we heard children communicating with their friends on why is it important to wash their hands.

What is Montessori?

With the use of Montessori Approach, we emphasise independence as it views children as naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a sufficiently supportive and well-prepared learning environment.
At The Learning Tree, our highly trained educators create a customized environment crafted to children's unique abilities, interests, and learning style.
