Nursery 2 Lilac
Welcome to Nursery 2 Lilac Page
Hi parents! Welcome to Nursery 2 Lilac Page!
I am Teacher Deena, the teacher in charge of Nursery 2 children. I am a qualified L2 teacher with 10 years of teaching experience.
At this age, learning about communication and interaction is as important as learning about literacy & numeracy. This is why I believe in hands-on activities to ensure that my lessons are engaging and fun for the children. Feel free to scroll below & find out more on our N2's learning.
Do not hesitate to contact me at deena@thelearningtree.com if you have any enquiries.

Overview of N2 Term
Term 1: Shapes
In term 1, our N2 children learnt about shapes! In N2, children will get the chance to learn more on how objects and figures are formed with the use of shapes. Learning shapes not only help children identify and organize visual information, it also helps them learn skills in other areas including reading, math, and science (Ito, n.d.). Some of the activities includes matching, sorting, and drawing of shapes.

Term 2: Plants
In this term, our N2 children discovered more about Plants. Learning about plants helps children to learn more about cause and effects. For instance, our N2 learnt that plants are not able to live without sun and water. Our N2 students learnt more about plants through activities like growing their own plants with green beans, creating an artwork of how they think their plant would look like, and leaves printing.

Term 3: My Senses
This term children learn about their 5 senses. Children get to learn what are their 5 senses as well as why are their senses important in their daily life. Our N2 children got the chance to learn more about their 5 senses during story-reading time where E-storybook on senses was introduced to the children. Additionally, some of the activities also includes children using their sense of touch to learn more about textures and their sense of smell to learn more about spices.

Teacher Deena's N2 Lesson: Texture
Teaching Techniques used
1. Demonstration
To ensure that children understands the activity and meet the lesson objectives, I decided to use demonstration as one of my teaching techniques.
I do so by using clear verbal instructions, breaking the tasks into small steps (giving verbal step-by-step instructions), allowing time for the children to observe, as well as keeping my demonstration brief as I understand that the N2 children have short attention span.
Time stamp of Demonstration used in the lesson video:
04:15

2. Questioning
To help children think critically, I decided to use Questioning technique. The process of asking questions allow children to articulate their current understanding of a topic, to make connections with other ideas, and also to become aware of what they do or do not know (Chin & Osborne, 2008).
Therefore, I then used variety of questions to motivate children's curiosity on the topic of texture.
Time stamp of questions used in the lesson video:
1. Open ended question - 1:19, 1:46 & 9:49
2. Close-ended question - 1:42, 2:13 & 9:22
3. Choice Questions - 6:33
4. Funnelling - 10:29
